The Short Version...

ASHLEY YABUT is a fantasy novelist and poet. Her debut poetry book, All the Pieces I Kept, is now available. When she’s not writing, she’s chasing her kids, building worlds, or trying to make sense of the ones already here. Ashley lives in Washington with her husband and two daughters.

The Long Version!

I’m a writer who believes stories can shift something in us—change how we see ourselves, even just a little. I focus on fantasy and high fantasy, often drawn to themes of resilience, loss, and quiet rebellion.

When I’m not writing, I’m probably deep in a D&D game or exploring a new RPG, usually with my daughters nearby and laughing at my bad rolls.

I started out in nursing, which might seem unrelated, but it taught me a lot about people—what they hold onto, what they let go of. That understanding shows up in my work more than I expected.

I also live with celiac disease, which has been its own kind of journey. It’s changed how I move through daily life, but it’s also taught me strategy, patience, and how to adapt when things don’t go as planned.

Whether you’re here for the stories or just curious about the process, I’m glad you’re here. I’m still figuring it out as I go—but that’s part of the story too.
